Launch

July: Before students return to school

Build and Manage Systems:  

  • Write/revise and train staff on minute-by-minute routines 
  • Track key school culture metrics 
  • With SL, set up regular meetings/structures: classroom walkthroughs, minute by minute walkthroughs, attendance response, school culture data, and student of concern meetings (in coordination with mental health professional, special education lead, and multilingual learner (MLL) lead)  
  • With operations staff, launch discipline and behavior response systems that are in legal compliance  

Drive Professional Development:  

  • Lead professional development (PD) on school culture vision, values, systems, policies, and processes  

Build Community:  

  • Lead kindergarten, 5th-/6th-/9th-grade, new student, and family orientations with operations and grade-level leads

Strong Start

August-September: When students return to school

In addition to the previous season’s skills …

 

Build Community:

Reach All Learners: 

  • With mental health professional, special education lead, and multilingual learner (MLL) lead, identify and establish support plans for students of concern 

Build and Manage Systems:  

  • Monitor and respond to Critical Routines via Minute by Minutes
  • Complete classroom walkthroughs on Strong Start Culture Criteria and respond to trends
  • Monitor and respond to attendance data via weekly or biweekly meeting
  • Monitor and respond to culture data at least monthly
  • Coordinate with grade-level leads to structure recurring grade-level meetings 

Drive Professional Development: 

  • Lead practice clinics on key Strong Start skills (with Instructional Leads)

October–December: Ratio, Lift, & Monitoring

Build Community:  

  • Celebrate student growth and achievement 
  • Survey students, families, and staff to gather input around school culture 

Reach All Learners:  

  • Analyze culture data to determine trends, outliers, and response plans, with specific attention to students with Individualized Education Programs/504s and multilingual learners 

Build and Manage Systems:  

  • Analyze schoolwide culture data points and make recommendations for what to prioritize in January Jumpstart 
  • Adjust/revise school culture systems to prepare for January Jumpstart

Rigor II

January–March: Monitoring and Response to Data

Build and Manage Systems:  

Reach All Learners: 

  • Facilitate meetings with off-track students and their families (attendance and behavior)

March–Early May

Build Community:  

  • Plan and facilitate end-of-year celebrations  
  • Facilitate end-of-year conversations with students and families (attendance and behavior)  
  • Solicit family, student, and staff input on school culture
